Birth

The ship's berth is way ahead and into a channel. A rainbow is a welcoming sign. Akin to a birth the ship rotates as the tug boats push and pull it through the limited space.
Pan Margaret has a length of 292 metres and carrying capacity of 180705 t. Coal is loaded during a 24hr visit. It took 14 days to sail here from South Korea.

Even Keel

A fisher a paddleboard and a bulk carrier Pan Margaret.  Do we like to keep on an even keel?
The Koel has returned this week. A loud persistant call annouces the arrival of the bird from S E Asia.

Universal energies

Behold creation!  As in sacred scenes of old, rays of heavenly light transformed our view, after all it was Sunday morning! Brooding and glorious.

Freight

Stop press stop press.  Josh said "Climate Change".
Scomo is O/S.  What will Barnaby say?

Bigger Picture

Earthquake currently recorded in Victoria as the rousing Zadoc the Priest by Handel accompanied the view this morning. Can't complain about that. Thanks ABC radio. Rivalled by Vaughan Williams. Then the mood changed with Katheen Ferrier who brings a cloud.

A lot of white water and rough surf was seen along the string of beaches, breezy, cool and one board rider while exercising was very popular.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood...

Besides the harbour....

Customs House clock tower. Opposite end has a railway shed as a useful shelter.  Imagine a big old smokey power house nearby. Imagine a railway shunting yard all round here. Shock horror, cars drove over the rail lines almost how they liked.

We cant live in the past but the past lives on in us

Harbour for sure

Photo 2 of same area has Zaara Street Power House in the distance. It can be seen with imagination!  The tug boats are berthed.

Sabbath

During the week, it was announced that Bishop Bill Wright of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, is dying of lung cancer.  He is always a thoughtful and moderate spokesperson.

Out of our Depth

Rainbow Warrior II in Newcastle
The position is aired that Newcastle is a nuclear-free zone.
The die is cast over the defense alliance with the US and a new fleet of submarines with nuclear power.  French suppliers were shunned. Recall with fear, sacrebleu, the sinking of the original Rainbow Warrior in Operation Satanique by French operatives in New Zealand. The Greenpeace vessel was on a mission to protest against French nuclear testing in the South Pacific.

Centennial Park.

1 Centennial Park Cooks Hill. Todays generation takes a stroll. Newer trees shade a lot of the far wide area which  was nearly clear in 1970s except along one side and the closer palm tree is taller. The annuals in the garden were a picture, nowdays the rose has taken their place.

2 and 3  New generation circa 1976, flowers, fewer trees and low key playground where fun, minor injuries and tears were not unknown.

Time Warp Bicentennial

Does this have a colonial presence?
Very special day in the Port of Newcastle in the 1980s.
Is the sole high-rise the Latec House, Hunter street west which was out of the ordinary when it was opened, that was in 1959 states NewcastleOnHunter.org. Very strangely in 1988 the building was abandoned for the next twenty years or so until rejuvenated.
Below: Queens Wharf on the same day.
And No 1 from another angle aimed at the wharf area in the 'the basin'.

Grave situation

Cathedral reserve or cemetry with sheep grazing.  The roof of the parking station is shown.  Possibly taken before Stockton Bridge was built which was in about 1970 although the parking station is standing.

High road

The street is cleared now and a plan seems to be to 'break through' and establish a path or vista to the cathedral up on the hill. A parking station is in the way.

The U S Open shown on Sbs is a welcome source of stress. Will the Australian Open go ahead? The Melbourne Cup? I bet everything is being thrown at the Delta pandemic.

Easy come easy go

The tower and the connecting above-ground walkway has been demolished.  It spanned the rail corridor and more.  Why didn't the designers gauge local reactions to the tower? It was derided.   Who was most out of step?

Lock Down

Where is a dose of life on the edge instead of this lock down?  Just as well fast cars and bikes are too alarming.  Will have to turn to Trainspotting.  Coal train 1, coal train 2, 3, 4.....

I intend to live forever or die trying!
