THE AUSTRALIAN UTE

Ute owners frequently keep a dog on the back of the ute. Not just any dog, this one is a brown Kelpie.

I have never seen this kind of dog. I hope the dog doesn't fall out of the truck.

You get to see this in Malta too, I really hate it when the dog starts running around and barking his head off, you always expect it to fall off.

I think workmen use the dog to guard their equipment, they can bark and shap if you dare go near, other times it is just the fashion to have a dog. Often the dog is tied to a short leash which prevents it from falling out although they get very good at keeping on board. In summer a dog needs some shade and could get dangerously hot there. The kelpie and other dogs are used to round up sheep and cattle on farms. They can run over the top of the flock too - like body surfing! Real farmers have small cages on the side of the truck to house the dogs when they go driving on the road.
