These roads often make the car go thump thump thump because of the depressions.
I believe, in the 1930s, economic stimulus and work gangs produced these roads to serve places all over the district. The roads are in small concrete sections with joins. They also become a measure of your car's comfort factor.

Sounds like many of the roads in Minnesota which they attempt to repair in the summer but come back apart in the winter and they do tend to jar one's car to pieces.

We have a few of them in Florida and we always remark we are now driving on a Minnesota road.

No offense to Minnesotans, of which I was one and remain an honorary citizen.
